Who is behind African Focus?

Hugo Gaarden, Journalist, Dane.

“I have visited Africa several times the last 50 years, and in 2016 I went through Africa from Cape Town to Cairo in my Land Rover Discovery. I have worked in Copenhagen, Bruxelles, Frankfurt and Shanghai.”

“During the tour in 2016 I saw a lot of passivity, but also dynamism. I thought: Is it not possible to have growth and improvement as in China – for the whole population? That led me to establish this newsletter, based in Zambia and Germany.”

“My whole life I have been writing about foreign policy and business, and I have a long experience in studying and writing about growth companies. Years ago I had a Danish newsletter on growth companies. I wrote a couple of books about the matter - two about successfull Danish companies in China and Eastern Europe, one about small, fast growing companies in Denmark. My first book was political and based on reporting in South Africa, where I in 1980 predicted a relative peaceful transition from apartheid to black majority rule, while the whites would preserve a substantial influence.”

The newsletter will be published once a week, ten months a year.
